Historical fiction is at the top of my book list and my standards for the genre are high. My bar is set by books where true events are foundational to the storyline. Where fact and fiction conflate so seamlessly that the reader can't wait to get to the appendix where the author
Write what you read:

tells which is which. It is in that synthesis that the story becomes immersive, the themes underpinning it expansive and the reading gripping.
The Politics of Plants aspires to that standard. It is a story that could not have happened at any time or place other than inter-war Brazil. Yet rings relevant to the world we shape today.
